Dear Rob you had a good innings just so sorry it ended this way .Family & animals will miss you for sure .RIP. BARRY
Its with a very heavy heart I write my farewell. Rob - never did I think I would be writing this message so soon. Having always had you to joke and tease it feels surreal that you are no longer a part of this world. You have always been such a prominent part of my life having spent many hours in your workshops over the years. You truly were so fantastically creative, from building your boat to cars, designing ideas for a flying hovercraft, painting, calligraphy, musical and so much more! Thank you for being my grandfather and making each trip to Norway (every school holiday!) such an experience - from driving 6/8 hours there and back to the airport to collect me with Nan. Theres so much to say but I cant seem to find enough words. So with that I say farewell and safe travels through the waters.
Although you passing has left a huge hole in my heart, I am relieved that your suffering has ended Dad.
You were my first Hero: an energetic and charismatic man, a fearless sailor, an inventor and a talented artist.
You could be a total clown and the hylight of many kid's party's.
You taught me many of the skills I still use today. You also taught me to have the courage of my convictions and to always say what I mean. That quality often got us both into a lot of trouble!
I am so grateful for the adventures we got to share Dad - such as sailing during wild storms, immigrating to Norway and working together for many years.
I will always carry a piece of you in my heart.
R.I.P, God bless
Rob. It was a privilege to know you. You did not follow a traditional path through life but you had a broad experience of lifes twists and turns. Although you were very modest about your achievements that were many. You expressed your creativity through your hands, whether it was fixing cars, building boats, sailing or playing beautiful music on the piano. I can only admire a man who can build his own boat let alone having the courage and confidence to sail it , mostly single-handed from South Africa to Norway. Go well on your last voyage.
Dear Trygve, many years of your life were spent building and sailing "Solveig". She was always in your thoughts and an important part of your plans, even after your a epic journey from South Africa to Norway - your dream come true! Dad and Mum were so proud of you when you finally sailed up the Sognefjord to Lærdal - what a triumph! Sven Erik and I only had one sailing trip with you and Pam, but enjoyed many a cup of coffee on board. Proud of you!
Rob, you became a stepfather to three little girls (3, 5 and 11 years old) a brave undertaking like no other!
You and mum provided an adventure filled childhood that makes me proud to reflect on. Climbing your yachts rat lines, learning how to row in your dingy and making us fearless of the sea.
Thank you for helping me build art frames, create projects, driving my friends and I to parties or driving across town to drop off clothes that I forgot to pack. You mediated a blended home and made our fathers feel welcomed and respected.
You loved our mum and all of us. Gobble-gobble x Love, Tiffany and family x
My first memory of you Rob was sailing on your Viking boat around Durban harbour. What an amazing craftsman you were! You could turn your hand to anything, besides also painting and filling your diary with your daily writings. You will be missed but your legacy will live on through your children. Thank you for giving us Robert, my talented godson.
What a wonderful journey you have had Rob. A life truly well-lived. Thank you for being there for me. For listening. For your funny, silly stories and heroic escapades that you loved to regale to all who would listen. For always calling all of us beautiful. It made us feel special. For waking us up every morning as you played the glorious Für Elise. It is still one of my piano favourites. For the thrill of motorbike rides on the Goldwing. For trusting us to steer your beloved Solveig, for the joy of sitting on the bowsprit as it dipped into the ocean and the sea sprayed all over us, climbing the mast ladders to dizzying heights and teaching me how to very impressively row the dingy. For our beautiful, gentle and kind brother. For the crazy fun days when the whole family would descend upon Livdtun for holidays. For helping mum so enthusiastically with Livdtun Kafe - you were so proud of all she did. You loved mum dearly. You were you Rob. Unashamedly. Sail away and keep on dreaming. Love Nicola
Takk for gode minner fra Livdtun.
Hvil i fred, Trygve️ ️❤️
Love you always!
From the distant shores of Australia, our hearts are heavy as we bid farewell to our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Though miles may separate us physically as a family, our thoughts and prayers bridge the distance as we honour his remarkable life in spirit. There are countless memories, especially from our younger years when we all lived in one country. From the early years of childhood, his influence profoundly shaped our lives, imprinting upon us values that will endure for generations to come. He possessed remarkable skills and talents, achieving extraordinary feats that set a high standard for us as his children to strive towards. As we unite in spirit to commemorate his legacy, we find comfort in knowing that his memory will forever be a part of our lives. May his spirit find peace in eternal rest, knowing that he will always be loved, and the memories we shared forever remembered. Farewell, Dad. Your legacy resides eternally in our hearts. Until we reunite, may you rest in peace.
